Gum Removal:
Step 1: Try to pull off as much gum as possible (don’t put any pressure on the gum as it will seep deeper into the fibers)
Step 2: Put 1 or 2 ice cubes in a plastic bag and seal it
Step 3: Lay the plastic bag over the top of the wax for approximate 5 minutes (or until gum is frozen)
Step 4: Very carefully and patiently, start from the bottom of one side of the gum and peel it from the carpet (you can use a butter knife to do this)
Step 5: If there is any remaining gum residue on your carpet, spray some gentle solvent (ex: Goo be Gone) onto the affected area and blot with a paper towel or a clean white cloth (Preferred method: obtain a free bottle of ‘Spot Out’ from Scott’s Cleaning Service. Come by our office or give us a call today to obtain your free bottle)!
Candle Wax Removal:
Step 1: Next to the stain, lay down a clean cloth and set aside 2 long pieces of a brown paper bag
Step 2: Set your iron to high – no steam
Step 3: Lay the top of the paper bag on the wax and press the iron onto the bag for a few seconds. (As you move the paper out and continue ironing SLOWLY be sure to keep the bag that contains the melted wax, onto the cloth to ensure none of the melted wax gets back onto the carpet)
Step 4: This is a bit of a slow process, but as long as it keeps melting onto the brown paper bag, most or all of the wax should be removed. Keep ironing onto each of the bags until the wax is fully removed. You will know when it’s fully removed when the wax stop melting onto the bag
Step 5: After all of the wax is removed, saturate the affected area with all-purpose spotter (Preferred method: obtain a free bottle of ‘Spot Out’ from Scott’s Cleaning Service. Come by our office or give us a call today to obtain your free bottle)!
Step 6: Fold a clean dry cloth onto the saturated area
Step 7: Firmly press the iron on top of the cloth and steam away any residue for about 20-30 seconds
Odor/Stain Removing Tips:
Tip #1: For most cases, you will start with the basics, such as blotting and then applying CLEAN water to the area, re-blotting, and then going from there (Preferred method: obtain a free bottle of ‘Spot Out’ from Scott’s Cleaning Service. Come by our office or give us a call today to obtain your free bottle)!
Tip #2: Ordinary carpet shampoo removes dirt so ALWAYS apply carpet deodorizer (try baking soda) to remove any smells
Tip #3: Sprinkle baking soda on carpet with odors (pets, smoke, etc) and leave it on overnight to allow it to soak in as much of the odor as possible (Vacuum up the baking soda the following day. This should remove MOST of the odors)
Carpet Care Tips:
Tip #1: Dirt and sand is sharp and can cut through carpet fibers. With damaged carpet, stains are harder to remove and it’s easier for stains to set in. Vacuuming often will not only remove dirt but your carpet will last a lot longer.
Tip #2: Using area rugs on heavy traffic areas and having a mat outside of the front door brings less dirt into your home, causing less damage and extending the life of your carpet
Tip #3: Removing your shoes before entering your home is a sure way to extend the life of your carpet.
Tip #4: Carpet protector keeps carpet more clean and safe from spills and stains from soaking into it.
Carpet Stain Do’s and Don’ts:
Tip #1: ACT QUICKLY! The longer a stain dries the more it will set and the harder it is to remove
Tip #2: OBTAIN a free bottle of ‘Spot Out’ from Scott’s Cleaning Service Come by our office or give us a call today!
Tip #3: NEVER try to scrub a stain out, as it may spread the stain and even deeper into the fibers
Tip #4: ALWAYS use a white towel to blot up any stains, as colored towels can ‘bleed’ causing more damage to the stain(s)
